Tim McLennan | CEO

Tim McLennan has over 25 years of experience in technology and research innovation and commercialisation sector. He has first-hand involvement in leading industry sectors such as resources, METS, energy, water, automation, aerospace and technology funding. He has held senior positions in research and innovation management, commercialisation, international business development and strategic partnership management.

Tim was previously the CEO of the International Energy Centre and prior to that held senior roles in CSIRO including, Director of Business Development and Commercial for CSIRO's mineral resources Flagship and Executive Manager of the Queensland Centre for Advanced Technologies. He has in-depth experience in the co-operative research arena including a period as Assistant Director of the AGCRC and establishing collaborative international research entities.

He has extensive experience in the Australian METS sector including roles as a Board member of Austmine Ltd and the Federal Government Resources Technology Innovation Centre. He is a director of the Australian Federal Government's Council of Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR), Vice Chairman of the Australian Latin American Business Council (ALABC), Board member of the Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence Ltd and Deputy Chair of the Queensland Futures Institute energy subcommittee.

Brent Watts | Director Ventures and Investment

Brent has over 20 years of experience spanning tech, startups and investment in Australia, Europe and the United States. He specializes in developing ecosystems to support innovation, new venture creation and early stage investment, and in guiding management teams as a company director, advisor and/or investor in a range of high growth, globally focused startups.

As the Director of Ventures & Investment at QUT bluebox, Brent leads the QUT Venture Fund and a range of entrepreneur programs including the QUT Accelerator, QUT Foundry and QUT Innovation Challenge. He mentors a portfolio of startup companies ranging from sports and health technology to social media analytics, and is an international ambassador for Silicon Valley based hardware accelerator Highway1 / PCH and robotics startup initiative Robot Launch / RoboHub / Silicon Valley Robotics.

Brent was formerly the Director of Innovation and Engagement at QUT bluebox and was also a US Tech Commercialisation Fellow at Boston University. He has also held roles in engineering, investment banking, management consulting and government funding in organisations including Queensland Investment Corporation, AusIndustry, RWTH Europe, Burchill VDM, John Wilson & Partners (now WorleyParsons), and Golding Contractors.

Brent holds a Master of Business Administration, Master of Engineering Science, Bachelor of Engineering (first class honors), and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the International Business Innovation Association Institute. He is also completing a Venture Capital Executive Program at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr Patrick Dwyer | Senior Commercial Manager

Patrick has a research background spanning molecular biology, epigenetics, cancer genetics, immunology, proteomics, genotyping, diagnostics, plant and animal physiology and crop science. Prior to joining QUT bluebox in 2015, Patrick also spent over four years in contracts and business development at QIMR Berghofer and the Baker IDI.

Patrick holds an Honours degree in Botany and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Otago. He is also a registered patent attorney, having worked in two patent law firms in Australia over four years providing intellectual property services to local companies and large multinationals across a range of technologies.

Patrick is a Commercial Manager at bluebox and is responsible for providing commercialisation support for researchers, mainly within the faculty of Science and Technology but also across a broad range of disciplines. Patrick also works with innovative start-up teams, providing mentorship and advisory panel support to entrepreneurs and start-ups in the QUT community.

Dr Tim MacTaggart | Chief Entrepreneur in Residence

Tim is a forward thinking entrepreneur, business leader and student of disruptive innovation. He has been involved in a number of industries over the past 20 years. He is a doctor of business administration (Deakin University) where he studied diffusion of innovation, focussing on the diffusion of disruptive technologies within technological systems. Tim is the inaugural QUT bluebox Entrepreneur in residence, founder of Smart Sensor Technologies, a company looking to bring intelligent environmental sensors to market, a casual lecturer in innovation at The University of Queensland and a regular blogger on issues relating to innovation and technological change. He has an engineering degree, and MBA and a Professional Doctorate from Deakin University.

Yotam Rosenbaum | ICT Entrepreneur in Residence

Yotam is a seasoned entrepreneur and business leader. He is the co-founder of Earbits Radio, a music startup funded by top silicon valley investors, including Y-Combinator, Wordpress founder Matt Mullenweg, Charles River Ventures, and more. Four years after its inception, Earbits was acquired by a private company based in Atlanta.

With a background in music, Yotam graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music, in Boston. Later he relocated to Los Angeles where he worked as a composer, drummer, and band leader. He composed award winning music for film, TV, and commercials. Through his experience as a band leader Yotam and his band mate, Joey Flores, identified a huge need for better music marketing solutions. The first-time founder duo founded Earbits in 2010, empowering bands and record labels to bid for airtime and monetize the radio audience. By 2014, the company boasted more than 15,000 bands and 700 record labels, streaming 2 million songs per month to more than 300,000 registered users. The mobile apps, rated an average of 4+ stars, received more than 500,000 downloads. Following Earbits' acquisition, Yotam led the opening of the parent company's west coast office and managed all of west coast operations.

In 2017, Yotam took a role as COO with Answerky, another Y-Combinator company. Answerky was awarded the Hot DesQ grant from the Queensland Government, and as a result, relocated to Brisbane, Australia. Later that year Yotam joined QUT Bluebox as ICT Entrepreneur in Residence. Yotam and his wife are big fans of Brisbane and plan on have quickly made it their new home.

Liliana Campos | Marketing and Communications Manager

Liliana has over 10 years of experience in marketing and communication. She is QUT Alumni (International Journalism & Mass Media Comms) and is currently completing Masters at UQ.

Liliana has experience working in industry working as a comms consultant across various projects at SKM (now Jacobs). She is experienced in working within university environment having worked with UQ Science Faculty (International recruitment and Marketing) and Sustainable Minerals Institute (Marketing & Communications) and with a the International Energy Centre – a centre made up of a consortium of universities and industry ( UQ, UWA, Newcastle, and Glencore).

Core competencies is digital communication and traditional communications such as advertising and marketing, media and strategic planning. She has an interest in start-ups and new forms of business, in 2015 she was selected for a Telstra program in digital leadership and entrepreneurship.

Callum Hickey | Commercial Associate

Callum is an early career chemical engineer with professional experience as an engineer and analyst in process development and techno-economics. He has worked on technical and commercial projects within a large multi-national engineering company and the university sector, experiencing technology transfer from a variety of situations. He has first-hand start up experience having worked on two university spin-offs, one of which he was a key contributor and investor, Callum appreciates the challenges researchers can face in commercialising their technology.

At QUT bluebox, Callum is a Commercial Associate. As a member of the broader QUT bluebox commercial team he provides advice on commercialisation matters for researchers as well as innovation and start up processes for early stage start-ups from students and staff across a range of areas within QUT.

Fiona Ashmore | Finance Manager

Fiona is responsible for managing the daily administrative and financial activities of the company. She has 23 years' experience in finance, governance and HR functions. After 12 years in public practice she moved to the Not-for-profit sector and has worked across a large range of organisations and disciplines providing experience in RTOs, Australian Financial Services Licences, and auditing requirements.

Doxia Nicholls | IP Administrator

At QUT bluebox, Doxia is responsible for administrative support across our operations team, finance and intellectual property. Doxia has over 20 years of administrative and finance experience spanning across the Oil and Gas Industries where she has worked with companies BP and Saunders. Prior to joining QUT bluebox, Doxia managed the front of office in an administrative role with Walz Group. Doxia brings to this role extensive administrative practice in office processes and systems.
