Our core role is to work together with QUT researchers to assess, develop and protect innovative intellectual property with the ultimate goal of transferring the innovations into the marketplace where they will have the greatest impact.
Our team has range of experience, skills and expertise, whether you need advice on commercial potential, facilitation of patent protection or finding partners for your project, bluebox is your single point of contact.
bluebox works closely with other research support services at QUT including:
- The Office of Commercial Services which provides support to researchers in the areas of consulting services, continuing education, international projects and contract research.
- The Office of Research which assists with grant administration, collaborative research, ethics, research budgets and data management.

We develop and manage commercial relationships with external communities including industry, government and investment sectors. We have strong national and international networks that can be useful in providing relevant connections relating to any QUT researchers field.
We are the first point of contact for all enquiries relating to protection, development and licensing of QUT's intellectual property. We manage the identification, assessment, development and protection of QUT’s intellectual property assets.
We are committed to working with QUT researchers to assist in the commercialisation of QUT-developed innovations of all types and forms. We will provide high quality advice and guidance through the myriad of commercialisation pathways to translate research outcomes for the benefit of the community, including non-traditional and unconventional means. bluebox will identify potential partners, license intellectual property and start up new companies to commercialise innovations developed at QUT.
We negotiate a range of agreements including, confidential disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, licensing and option agreements (including evaluation licenses) and joint venture agreements.
Not only do we work with researchers to prepare commercially savvy grant and funding applications, we also administer the Proof of Concept Fund and can seek investment for commercially ready projects.
