QUT is one of the largest universities in Australia with over 40,000 student enrolments and 3,000 staff. It consists of 9 faculties spread across 3 campuses and receives the highest number of first preferences from Queensland university applicants. Its internationally recognised degrees are aimed at "real-world" solutions and illustrate the university’s position as a leader in applied research with a strong emphasis on industry linkages.

QUT has a strategic approach to building its research capacity by focusing on its existing strengths and aligning them with state/national priorities and market-relevant opportunities. Its firm commitment to innovation is illustrated by the creation of four key institutes:

• Institute for Health and Biomedical Innovation
• Institute of Creative Industries and Innovation
• Institute for Sustainable Resources

QUT's research capacity and performance has continued to expand over the past three years with consistent increases in research income of up to 29.9%. It aims to continue this growth rate and increase its reputation for internationally excellent research and commercialisation outcomes.
