Intellectual property management

bluebox home | Services | Intellectual property management

At bluebox, we understand that intellectual property - the property of your mind or intellect - is a complex matter, covering patents and registered designs, copyright and trademarks, with trade secrets, circuit layout rights and plant breeder's rights in between.

We also recognise that issues such as publishing versus patenting, and open source versus open access, can overly complicate the area further, and that intellectual property considerations vary between faculties, schools and research groups.

To assist QUT researchers to navigate the full range of intellectual property issues relevant to research and innovation at the university, we work with you to

  • Identify QUT-developed intellectual property from all areas of the university.
  • Implement protection mechanisms to retain commercial rights to intellectual property, including patenting and filing trademarks.
  • Evaluate publishing concerns to ensure that commercialisation and academic advancement can occur in tandem.

In addition, the following sources of information may assist you to understand this interesting area and its relevance to the work undertaken at QUT.

Of course, we encourage you to contact us at any time with any queries you might have regarding intellectual property as a QUT researcher.
