Innovation Challenge - 2016

The qutbluebox Innovation Challenge is open to all QUT alumni, students and staff with an entrepreneurial vision. It offers the chance to secure seed funding, gain publicity and work with qutbluebox to progress their innovation.

There is $250,000 of prizes up for grabs!

Watch the five Innovation Challenge finalists’ speed pitches and vote online for the innovation you think deserves to win. The winner of the crowd vote* will receive $15,000.

All you have to do is:

1. View the 30 second videos from each of the five finalists; and

2. Vote for your favourite by 3pm on Tuesday 11 October 2016.

A limited number of free tickets are available to attend the Innovation Challenge Finalist Pitch Event. Watch the finalists present 5 minute pitches on their innovations before a judging panel and a live audience.

The Finalist Pitch Event will be held from 3 to 5:30pm on Thursday 13 October at QUT's Gardens Point Campus.

Five finalists have been selected for the 2016 qutbluebox $250,000 Innovation Challenge, as follows:

  • Conweigh
  • A shipping container weighing service using a portable and instant weighbridge, accessed and delivered to consumers on demand, via app, phone and web, as at

  • LookBooker
  • An online appointment aggregator for the hair and beauty industry, as at

  • Field Orthopaedics
  • A magnetic total wrist replacement device utilising the power of magnets to return quality of life to sufferers of wrist pain and dysfunction.

  • MedAugment
  • A smartphone-based augmented reality solution which enhances consumers’ engagement with their medical devices, by visualising interactive, digital, and dynamic consumer information throughout the device use cycle.

  • Velvet
  • Creating the Wi-Fi sharing economy through the application of technological and business model innovation to the provision of consumer Wi-Fi, as at
